Using bacteriophage EMBL3 and plasmid pVZ361 as vectors for lieterologous DNA cloning the gene banks of strains CXM1 and CXM1-188 Rhizobium meliloti have been obtained. When screening the phage bank of genes we identified bacteriophages containing DNA fragments with symbiotic genes (nif, nod) and eff+ genes which, obviously, take part in development of the legume-rhizobia symbiosis. The plasmid bank of genes has been used for complementation of leucine auxolrophs with the aim to investigate the impact of auxotrophy on development of symbiosis between nodule bacteria and their host-plant Medicago saliva.
