The enzymic activity of crystalline cytosolic aspartate aminotransferase (L-aspartate: aminotransferase 2-oxoglutarate, EC 2.6.1.1) was determined in suspensions of micro-crystals in 50 % ammonium sulphate and 20 % (wt/vol) polyethylene glycol. The crystals (1-2 μm wide) were small enough to preclude diffusional rate limitation. The catalytic activity of the crystalline enzyme is 32 % and 40 % of the enzyme activity in solution, respectively.References
