Abstract
Exogenous adenine has been studied for its influence on the expression of ADE2 and ADE1 genes coding for the primary structure of enzymes: AIR-carboxylase (EC 4.1.1.21) and SAICAR-synthetase (EC 6.3.2.6) in yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae. It is shown that under the repression conditions (cultivation of yeasts on the complete PEPP medium containing 0.5 g/1 of adenine, concentration of mRNAs necessary for translation of both AIR-carboxylase and SAICAR-synthetase is lower than under nonrepressed conditions (PEPP medium). The activities of the mentioned enzymes are observed to decrease under the repression. The data obtained permit supposing that expression of ADE2 and ADEl genes as well as of two other purine biosynthesis genes — ADE4 and ADE13 is regulated simultaneously by exogenous adenine at the transcriptional level.
