Characterization of Drosophila virilis Delta mutants with asymmetrical wing vein thickenings

Abstract
In D. virilis two types of Delta (Dl) locus alleles are distinguishable. All Dl-heterozygous flies of the first group display delta-like thickenings of L2 vein in both wings simultaneously (I type), Dl alleles of the second group cause low penetrant Dl phenotype with irregular asymmetrical thickenings of L2 vien (If type). The study of phenotypes associated with different Dl alleles of I and II types shows that Dl-asymmetry of L2 and all longitudinal (L3–L5) and cross (C1 and C2) wing veins is rather flucfuotional then directional.
