Abstract

The DNA synthesis has been studied in isolated maize mitochondria. Both high-molecular and plasmid-like mitochondrial DNA were shown to possess the template activity with respect to DNA synthesis in organello Linear (S1, S2, 2.3 and 2.1 kb) and circular (1.9 kb) plDNA exhibit higher activity as genetic templates than the mitochondrial chromosome. The circular plDNA of 1.9 kb have the greater replicative activity.
