Abstract

Allelic relationships of the mutations induced by synthetic polynucleotides are of a rather specific and complex pattern. A general hypothesis has been suggested to explain the complex complementatory relations of lethal mutations. According to this hypothesis, specific interactions of these mutations reflect certain structural peculiarities of chromosomes connected with a multiplicity of defects. Existence of chromosomes with multiple mutations has been proved by the recombination analysis.
