Abstract

The expression of ribosomal S6 kinase α and β isoforms has been analyzed in different rat tissues. The levels of kinase expression have been stated to show tissue-specific pattern, while the level of S6Kα is higher compared to that of S6Kβ. The highest levels of a and ft isoforms expression have been found in the brain and testes, respectively. Comparing the results of the mRNA expression analysis for both forms of S6 kinase forms we have found a correlation with respective protein levels only in a restricted number of tissues that may reflect the different effectiveness of the corresponding mRNA translation.
