RFLP ANALYSIS OF DUCHENNE MUSCULAR DYSTROPHY GENE IN POPULATION OF LENINGRAD AND IN HIGH RISK FAMILIES

Summary

Allelic polymorphism of two loci in proximal part of Duchenne muscular dystrophy gene (DMD) DXS164 (pERT 87.15 probe) and DXS206 (probe XJI.I) has been studied by blot-analysis in population of Leningrad and in high risk families. Al!elic polymorphism of both loci studied in normal individuals and high risk families was found to be quite similar to that in North American population. The proportion of women heterozygous for alle/es of both loci was about 40%. 7 of 9 families subjected to RFLP analysis were found to be informative for subsequent prenatal testing. Deletion in the proximal part of DMD gene has been discovered in 1 of 6 DMD patients.
