An efficient method for the plant regeneration and Agrobacterium mediated transformation with interferon-a2b gene has been developed for chicory C. intybus L. cv. Pala rossa. The regeneration with efficiency about 100 % was induced on the MS medium supplemented with 0.5–2.5 mg/l kinetin and 0.5 mg/l NAA. The transformed plantlets were recovered at a frequency 26,9 % on basal medium with 25 mg/l kanamycin. According to PCR-analysis the nptII and ifn-a2b genes were integrated into the genome of transformed plants.
