Protein S-100: structural and functional properties and role in nervous tissue
V. N. Nikandrov, E. V. Chaplinskaya
The literature data are analyzed concerning the classification, techniques of isolation, physical and chemical properties, localization in neuronal structures, dynamics in ontogenesis, mechanisms of action and functional role in the nervous system, neurotrophic properties, and involvement of Ca2+-binding proteins S-100 in the pathogenesis of some diseases. The contribution of S-100 to the cellular and general intersystem mechanisms of life maintenance and adaptive activity in human and animal organisms is discussed.
Keys words: S-100, nervous system, structure, functions, Ca2+.
