The review is devoted to the characteristics of glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) — the astrocyte-specific component of the inter¬mediate filaments. In immunochemistry this marker is applied at diagnostics of astrocytic tumor, investigation of astrocyte develop¬ment and gliosis.
