The localization of Klebsleila oxytoca VN 13 in rice roots and the patterns of their interrelationships have been investigated by electron microscopy. These studies demonŽstrated that bacteria were localized in a slime on a surface of roots and in peripheral root cells and that their number increased from basal edge to distal one of a root (1); indicated that penetrations of bacteria into host cells occurred through t he root cell wall hydrolysis .with bacterial enzymes (2); suggested that the effect of the bacterial invasion was restricted with the peripheral layer of root cells in the two-week rice seedlings (3).
