Mitochondrial Genome of Genus Nicotiana

Summary

    Mitochondria! DNA (mt DNA) restriction fragment patterns 38 Nicotiana species were used to study phylogenetic relationship. Results indicated that the N. rustica mt DNA was inherited from N. paniculata. Conservation in organization between mt DNA of N. rustica and N. paniculata, N. acuminata and N. attenuata, N. palmeri and N. trigonophylla provide evidence that the mt genome for these pairs of species is evolutionary stable. On the base of the mt DNA analysis the species of Suaveolens section can be Dividet into two groups.
