ISOLATION OF SPECIFIC mRNA USING ANTISERUM AGAINST THE P35 PROTEIN OF VACCINIA VIRUS ENVELOPE AND MAPPING OF THE P35 PROTEIN GENE
Summary
An immunochemical isolation of a specific mRNA from vaccinia virus infected cells has been carried out using antiserum against the p35 protein of the virion envelope. The cDNA synthesized on this mRNA has been shown to hybridize specifically to the gene started at the distance of ~1150 base-pairs of the left end of the vaccinia virus DNA Hindlll A fragment. This gene encode a 26.200—Mr polypeptide. Treatment of the p2S protein with hitinase results in a decrease of its molecular weight to 28.5 kD. The gene mapped is supposed to encode the precursor of the vaccinia virus envelope glycoprotein p35.
