THE DEPENDENCE OF SILVER STAINING OF POLYRIBONUCLEOTIDES IN POLYACRYLAMIDE GELS ON NUCLEOTIDE SEQUENCE
Summary
A simple and reliable method for silver staining of RNA and homopolyribonucleotides af¬ter electrophoresis in PAAG, containing 7M of urea, is described. The sensitivity of the method is by three orders of magnitude higher than that of the staining with methylene blue. RNA-silver complex formation is shown to be dependent on the composition of poly-ribonucleotides. Thus, maximum sensitivity of the method is observed with poly (G) and poly (I), while poly (U) demonstrates negative staining.
