THE EFFECT OF TWO TYPES OF BINDING OF THE LIGANDS ON THE PARAMETERS OF THE DNA HELIX-COIL TRANSITION

Summary

A theory of the helix-coil transition in DNA complexes with ligands is developed for the case of two types of interaction differing from each other in the binding constants of the ligand to the unmelted DNA. The formulas connecting the experimentally found parameters of the melting curves of the DNA-ligand complexes with the parameters of the theory are derived. It is shown that the formula for the enthalpy of the helix-coil transition of DNA (A//) is universal and valid at the very general assumptions.
