CARBON CATABOLITE INACTIVATION IN YEAST AS AN IMPORTANT WAY OF REGULATION AT THE POSTTRANSLATIONAL LEVEL
Summary
The main characteristics of the carbon catabolite inactivation in the yeast cells are con¬sidered. A new interpretation of the physiological significance of this regulatory mecha¬nism is suggested. Data are presented concerning the role of cAMP, protein kinases and vacuolar proteinases in the realization of carbon catabolite inactivation in the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae and in methylotrophic yeasts. A special way of inactivation which functions in methylotrophic yeast and is connected with the «fusion» of peroxi-somes and vacuoles and subsequent degradation of peroxisomal enzymes, is described. It is pointed out that genetic control of carbon catabolite inactivation as well as mole¬cular mechanisms of such inactivation for majority of enzymes are not studied yet.
