POSITIVE TOPOISOMERASE ACTIVITY REVEALED IN A NEW EXTREME-THERMOPHILIC ANAEROBIC ARCHAEBACTERIUM, REDUCING SULFUR
Summary
Topoisomerase able to introduce positive supercoils into a closed circular DNA has been first found and partially purified from anaerobic archaebacterium. The topoisomerase fraction obtained by chromatography on phosphocellulose contains two polypeptides with molecular weights 108000 and 135000. ATP, ions Na+ and Mg2+ are needed for the enzyme functioning. Desulfurococcus topoisomerase is not inhibited by O2.
