EXPRESSION OF T-REGION GENES IN SOMATIC CELL HYBRIDS OBTAINED BY FUSION OF NORMAL AND TUMOUR CELLS

Summary

Protoplast fusion of Nicotiana tabacum (56S3) tumour cells and Atropa belladonna L. mesophyll leaf cells was carried out. 57 hybrid cell lines in hormone-free medium are selected. Analysis of hybrid lines involved the determination of the multiple molecular forms of amylase and the LpDH activity, suppression of shoot and root organogenesis, resistance to 5-bromodeoxyuridine, 2-aminoethylcystein, 5-methyltryptophan as well as cytogenetic study. The available data permit demonstrating that under somatic cell hybridization most of tumour characters, controlled by T-DNA, are inherited as dominant. In some cases the expression of these characters depends on exogenous phytohormone presence or absence in nutrient media.
